MON collaborates with “Fandema” charity in Gambia, work and goals of which are focused on the improvement of basic education of grown women by creating jobs and new businesses , what oils the wheels of the entrance into the labour market, and thus empowers Gambian women.
Fandema is an Manding word that means help yourself.
We teach natural cosmetics courses in order that women can create their own cosmetics with native products. This year, we have carried out a course of therapeutic massage.
We are very satisfied with our mission of collaboration as it is a direct action in favour of Gambian women, and the results are immediately noticeable. Currently, there are already more than 30 women that have been able to enter the labour market thanks to our work during the past three years. Some of them have started to create their own cosmetics, while others, thanks to our training program, have been able to find a job in the new Spas of the Gambian coast.
In 2018 we initiated a new project with Fandema : the extraction of native essential oils. Since his first trip to Gambia, Joan Cano, founder of MON, has been fascinated by the popular culture of plant knowledge that Gambians have. This is why he decided to send an alembic and to start making the first trials. This project aims to be able to extract native essential oils, and thus to create businesses ruled by Gambian women, and profit of which would be fully in aid of Gambian community.
